As part of the opening of the vernissage of the visual artist Guido Rupp, alias "GuRu", paintings were auctioned off for the benefit of our Care 4 Dogs aid project. The evening was hosted by art expert Markus Hübl. The proceeds from the auction will benefit street dogs in crisis areas such as Ukraine and large parts of Africa. We collect donations of medicines, work with dedicated local animal welfare organizations and treat dogs directly on site. Our focus areas for next year are Eastern Europe, East Africa and the Asian region.

Parasites are a constant plague among street dogs. Many can also transmit dangerous pathogens.

Not only humans, but also parasitic diseases contribute to the suffering of street dogs. Fleas, ticks and mites can transmit dangerous pathogens.

Worldwide, there are 59,000 humane deaths per year. In Tanzania alone, 1,500 people die each year. 40% of the fatalities are children. Rabies is 99% transmitted through dog bites. Rabies is 100% preventable through vaccination.

Dog bites are the most common cause of rabies transmission to humans, accounting for 99%. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the virus kills 59,000 people worldwide every year, 20,000 of them in India alone. 40% of the fatalities are children.

Free-roaming dogs often come into conflict with humans. In search of water and food, they seek out the vicinity of human settlements. But humans are often afraid of strays. The consequences are mistreatments in which the animals are seriously injured or even die.

Many stray dogs lack water, food, and adequate shelter from heat or cold. In many countries, their populations are limited by trapping and killing. In addition, thousands are shot, poisoned or skinned for fun and die a slow, agonizing death.
