Is there an end of food fraud in sight?

Our comments on the issue of food fraud over the last few weeks may have raised the question on measures suited to improve consumer safety. Prof. Dagmar Schoder is head of the working group "Global Food Safety" at the Vetmeduni Vienna. She says: "We need a powerful, efficient food control at global level. A task force should be set up to act worldwide and draw samples globally to detect fraud, but also to hold those manufacturers and retailers, who committed food fraud, accountable".

In Europe, there is also urgent need for action, because currently no common European regulation for food fraud exists. Even though food fraud will never be completely eliminated, targeted measures are essential for the safety of consumers worldwide.
