In its annual report 2021, the Roofing Association "Globale Verantwortung – Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Entwicklung und Humanitäre Hilfe" gives Austria a bad grade for its public development aid. As one of the richest countries in the world, Austria ranks only 13th of all European OECD countries and is therefore well below the EU average.

In a per capita comparison, Austria has spent only 8 Euros per capita on people in the world's poorest countries, Denmark on the other hand almost 88 Euros and Sweden 111 Euros. And this despite the increased demand for international engagement due to multiple crises.
