For the past few years, Veterinarians without Borders has been on track of global food fraud. In 2008, we managed to reveal a food scandal over milk powder in Africa contaminated with melamine and lead. Due to food shortages, Africa is dependent on milk powder imports. In addition, mothers are often malnourished or HIV positive. To feed their babies, they depend on milk powder. But: Even low concentrations of pollutants have severe consequences for infants and toddlers.
